Taraneh Hemami

Taraneh Hemami is an interdisciplinary visual artist based in San Francisco, California, USA.

Influenced by Persian art, architecture and poetry, Hemami's multidisciplinary works explore the complex cultural politics of exile through personal and collective projects and installations. Born in Tehran, Iran, Hemami received her MFA from California College of the Arts in 1991 and has exhibited regularly at national and international venues including at Intersection for the Arts,[1] Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), Rose Issa Projects (London, England), and Sharjah Art Museum (Sharjah, United Arab Emirates).

Hememi's works have been collected internationally by major public collections including the British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, and The World Bank, as well as many private collections. Hemami has received awards from the Creative Work Fund, the San Francisco Arts Commission, California Council for the Humanities, San Francisco Foundation, and the James Irvine Foundation's Visions from the New California Award. She has been in residency at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, Montalvo Center for the Arts, Kala Art Institute, and The Lab and the Center for Public Life at the California College of the Arts in Oakland, California. Hemami is represented by Rose Issa Projects in London.
